At Puppy Einstein, we believe that learning should be as fun and rewarding for dogs as it is for the humans who love them. Founded by Derek Calado, CPDT-KA CCBC-KA, our organization specializes in positive reinforcement dog training that combines science-based training methods with real-world experience to achieve lasting results. With over a decade of hands-on work in dog behavior consulting, structured playgroups, and client education, our approach emphasizes clarity, consistency, and communication. What started as a small playgroup and behavior program in Hudson, MA, has grown into a full-scale training and education hub where owners, trainers, and dogs learn together. Whether you’re raising your first puppy, tackling behavioral challenges, or seeking to deepen your understanding of dog training, we provide the structure, support, and community you need to succeed.

Meet The Founder
Hi, I’m Derek Calado, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, founder of Puppy Einstein and an AKC CGC Evaluator. My journey in the dog world began more than a decade ago as a grooming assistant and dog walker, where I learned the value of patience, observation, and building trust with both dogs and their owners. From there, I spent four years managing a busy dog daycare, gaining hands-on experience with dog behavior consulting, group dynamics, socialization, and the everyday challenges that dog owners face.
In 2014, I took the leap and founded Puppy Einstein, a small training and playgroup program built around structure, consistency, and understanding. What started as a handful of playgroups and private lessons has evolved into Puppy Einstein Academy, where we serve dogs and their families through positive reinforcement dog training, behavior consulting, enrichment, and education.
As a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and Certified Canine Behavior Consultant (CBCC-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), I am committed to providing science-based training that is both effective and humane. I believe that successful training involves more than just teaching behaviors—it’s about helping owners understand their dogs, build stronger relationships, and create lasting change.
Whether I’m working with a new puppy, a dog facing behavioral challenges, or mentoring the next generation of trainers, my goal remains the same: to help dogs and people communicate more clearly and live better lives together.
