At Puppy Einstein, we believe learning should be as fun and rewarding for dogs as it is for the humans who love them.
Founded by Derek Calado, a professional dog trainer on the path to dual CCPDT & CBCC certifications, our mission is to bridge science-based education with real-world results.
What started as a small playgroup and behavior program in Hudson, MA has grown into a full-scale training and education hub—a place where owners, trainers, and dogs all learn together. Whether you’re raising your first puppy, modifying complex behavior, or preparing for your own professional certification, we provide the structure, consistency, and community to help you succeed.
We combine positive reinforcement, learning theory, and practical application in every session. Our philosophy is simple:
“Train with understanding, not intimidation.”
Each lesson, group class, and online course is built around clear communication, empathy, and evidence-based methods—ensuring lasting results and a confident, connected relationship between you and your dog.
To make high-quality, science-backed dog training accessible, supportive, and empowering for both owners and aspiring professionals.
We’re building a community of educated, compassionate dog owners and trainers who believe that better communication creates better lives, for dogs and people alike.

Hi, I’m Derek Calado, founder of Puppy Einstein. My journey in the dog world started over a decade ago as a grooming assistant and dog walker, where I learned the importance of patience, observation, and connection. From there, I spent four years managing a busy dog daycare, gaining hands-on experience with canine behavior, group dynamics, and the art of communication between dogs—and people.
In 2014, I took the leap and launched Puppy Einstein, a small program built around structure, consistency, and understanding. What began as a few playgroups and private lessons has grown into Puppy Einstein Academy—a place where dogs and humans learn together through positive, science-based methods.
Today, I’m pursuing dual certifications through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT)- the CPDT-KA and CBCC-KA to ensure everything we teach is grounded in evidence-based practice and compassion.
At Puppy Einstein Academy, my mission is to help owners and aspiring trainers build clear, confident relationships with their dogs—because when we teach with patience and purpose, everyone learns a little better.
