We've been working with Derek for two years between our pit and boxer rescues, who have had specific, challenging issues to address.
Derek is very patient and understanding of many behavioral issues. He has a large repertoire of techniques, so when one thing doesn't work, he immediately knows what to do next. He is great at identifying and focusing on particular behavioral weaknesses, working in a logical progression.
Our dogs love spending time with Derek, which makes going on vacation without them a bit easier. We know they are in good hands. Derek comes to our house and will stay with the puppies as much as time allows, so they get plenty of exercise and are happy when we get home.
Not only that, his rates are lower than for boarding elsewhere. Derek has a knack for making sure that the dog owner is trained too, and stays in the owner's comfort zone for training style. Scheduling is also easy and flexible! Between quick responses and day or evening availability, anyone can make sure their dog gets the training they need.

We have a rescue Chihuahua who was abused. She was very fearful around strangers and would bark incessantly and uncontrollably if a stranger came near her. Many said "She's a small dog, this is what they do", others "Its understandable, with her past".
Personally, I tried everything - gentle leader harness, dog schools, choke collars etc but it continued to be a problem for every walk.
As a last resort, someone recommended Derek to me and I thought I would give it a try. Over three weeks, my Chihuahua has experienced a complete transformation. It started as Derek arrived to meet my barking, crazy dog and he said "Yes, I see exactly what is going on".
He instructed me on how to help her and helped her to overcome her fear of people, noises, other dogs etc. I've gone from thinking, "this is it, I have a crazy dog" to understanding that with the right expertise, small dogs, rescue dogs and even ones as abused as Bella can learn to trust and be at peace. We have a 6 year old German Shepherd, who has been bitten by other dogs, and therefore is fear aggressive. I took her to Best Friends kennel for boarding while we took a trip. I came back, and my sweet Frieda was afraid to have her feet touched. Her nails were cut so short at her grooming session, that every foot was bleeding when I picked her. I vowed never to take to her to a boarding kennel again!
I knew the best option for Frieda would be to find the right person to stay with her at home. And, I did! Derek Calado is that person!
Derek starting coming to the house about 3 weeks before our trip. Different times of the day, with us home in the house, with us outside on the deck, different situations. Frieda reacted better and better. We learned tips from Derek on how to handle her when the doorbell rings. Derek stayed with Frieda for 16 days. He sent me pictures and video through text messaging while we were away. And, I could see she was comfortable with Derek! I could relax knowing she was in good hands. Upon returning from Portugal, Frieda was very excited to see us, and then Derek came back the next day. She was very happy to see Derek, and she whined when he left. I will definitely hire Derek again!

Derek is AMAZING! We just rescued our 2nd dog who is a wonderful boy but a handful... two hands full! Lol I am so happy to have Derek working with our pack at our home so he can see how both dogs truly act! Helping correct and teach with real life situations in our own environment is wonderful!
I have done the pet store training with my first Rescue Dog and it was okay with teaching basic commands but not at all for correcting bad behavior such as barking when someone comes to the door and so much more because they had no idea what they were truly working with or how my dog actually acted because they didn't see her in action. It's not just my dogs that are learning, it's myself as well.
I am now understanding how to help them be the best dogs they can be and am able to recognize the things I am doing wrong and how to fix my training skills to help my dogs grow!

Puppy Einstein is the best around, they are super flexible and you go at your own pace.
I have a greater Swiss Mountain dog and he isn't neutered so he can be quite a handful. Puppy Einstein gives constructive feedback for real results, they identify problem behaviors and train accordingly all in an environment designed to test your dog. Whether it's on a public bike path with other dogs and people or in your own home, they get straight to the point with no messing around.
I can't recommend Puppy Einstein enough, whether your looking for an obedient house pet or planning on taking your dog and showing him/her, Puppy Einstein has the proper techniques to do it all. 5 stars.

Derek is the best. I know this because my dogs are so, so, so very happy to see him when he walks through the door.
Derek responds to texts within a day. He gives you a heads up when he notices a change in a dogs behavior. He is excellent at training dogs as well. He is working with my dogs now, so I can eventually walk both dogs without being dragged across pavement when they see another dog.
I can't recommend Derek enough. He is truly dedicated to giving dogs the best life.

Our rescue pup had some challenges and Derek was able to set her on the right path. He's great at simplifying things and using analogies in order to have things make sense.
My wife and I are able to communicate directly to Derek with videos of problems and he develops game plans for us that have been extremely helpful.

Puppy Einstein literally saves my sanity! I have 2 active pups (a Corgi & a Husky mix - both 2 years old) and since the pandemic I primarily work from home full-time. There are some days when the struggle is real juggling work with 2 active dogs at home!
Tuesday and Thursday are the favorite days of the week in my household - doggie playgroup days! My dogs literally wait at the door when I mention Derek or Ben are coming to pick them up! Derek is so incredibly knowledgeable about my dog's behavior and it is such a relief knowing they are in good hands and having a great time at playgroup.
The pups come home exhausted and all is well again in my household! LOL! If you are looking for a great socialization experience for your pups Puppy Einstein is the place to go! I highly recommend them!

Derek has been wonderful with our corgi, Mabel! From walks to playgroups to pet sitting, he goes above and beyond every time. He's so kind, caring, and always quick to respond, which makes everything stress-free for us. Mabel absolutely adores him--she comes home happy, tired, and full of wiggles after her adventures.
The playgroups have done wonders for her confidence and energy, and when she stays with Derek, we know she's safe, loved, and having the best time.

Derek has been taking my dog for a couple of years now. He is always courteous in our home and shows genuine knowledge and care for the dogs.

We love Derek and Puppy Einstein!!! Chiquita has been going to Puppy Einstein for almost 8 years twice a week. We initially signed her up for socialization skills and she has really blossomed under Derek's care.
He treats all of the dogs as if they are his own and Chiquita always comes home with a big smile on her face. Derek is one of the few that we trust to take care of Chiquita when we are out of town because he treats her like family. She is not in a crate in a back room but hanging on the couch with Derek's family and his dogs.
She sometimes looks like she may not want to come home she has it so good there. We are so happy with Puppy Einstein and would not think of taking her anywhere else!!

Highly recommend Puppy Einstein! Derek has worked with our dogs for years, and our dog Abbie currently does both training and playgroup with him.
He's incredibly insightful and has taught us a lot about improving our walks together. Abbie absolutely loves playgroup too, and we love that she comes home happily exhausted afterward.

Derek feels like a part of the family! Twice a week he comes to our home for our two pups, Mazey and Tucker, to socialize them happily and goof around with other dogs. Being local we first reached out to him several years ago for training for Tucker. Derek came right to the house and the rest is history.
He is always willing to advise on any questions we may have from health to behavioral concerns. Derek reliably shows up and with just a whistle, he takes them off with wagging tails into the Puppy Einstein van. Derek often sends texts with pictures of Mazey posing or Tucker giving kisses to all of his furry friends.

I was very pleased with the improvement in obedience of my two shih-Tzu/bichon mixes. They are both much better with strangers and new dogs.
I will definitely be returning for more training and hope to utilize the daycare as well.
I highly recommend Derek to all puppy parents seeking quality training and care for their dogs.
